Shakopee is a city in and the county seat of Scott County, Minnesota. It is southwest of downtown Minneapolis and located on the south bank bend of the Minnesota River. Shakopee is over 28 square miles in area and has a population of of almost 40,000 in 2015.

The Shakopee school district serves more than 8,000 students in Shakopee, Savage, Prior Lake, and the Jackson, Louisville, and Sand Creek Townships. The district consists of an early childhood education center, 5 elementary schools, a 6th grade center, 2 junior high schools, Tokata Learning Center and Shakopee High School. Shakopee has implemented several innovative programs in the last several years and in fall of 2018 the high school will become the Academies of Shakopee.
